Collaboration

Collaboration can take many shapes and forms. Maybe you need “whatever it takes” to help you meet a deadline, or fresh ideas to get you out of a rut. Perhaps you have a great idea but need a hand developing it. Or you need a resource who knows how to navigate the publishing world.

However simple or complex your situation, let’s see if I can help!

Frequent Collaboration Scenarios

Seasoned author with numerous publications, but you’re concerned about becoming stagnant in your craft or predictable in your content. You think it’s worth a try to partner with someone to infuse new energy into your work and help take your skills to the next level.

A first-time author who’s signed a contract with a publisher. However, with the deadline looming large on the horizon, you’re unsure how to finish a high-quality manuscript the publisher will accept.

Everyone says you should write a book, but frankly, you’re not interested in writing, and even if you were, you don’t have the time. But if you could hire someone to turn your ideas into a book… You may be someone who has lived an extraordinary life, or a busy executive or entrepreneur with lots of innovative, original ideas.

A writer who wants to self-publish but is suspicious of hiring an expensive editorial/writing service that promises things that seem too good to be true (and likely are). If only you could engage a trusted publishing vet who knows what makes a book appealing to consumers…

Author Coaching

As a former college writing instructor, teaching and coaching come naturally to me. And as a fellow writer, I understand that writing can be an isolating—and sometimes frustrating!—activity. So let me join you on your writing journey and provide the support, encouragement, and motivation you need to keep moving forward through the process.

Editorial

Whether it’s developing and restructuring your manuscript or fine-tuning every word and punctuation mark, thorough editorial attention enhances your writing voice and clarifies your book’s message.

Editors are a species, but they also specialize. Projects need different types of editing at various stages, to bring the manuscript into alignment with other works in that space.

Every category of written work has an expected framework, and editors need to be familiar with the genre’s nuances. Some editors specialize in academic writing, novels, travel writing, memoir, and so forth. Others—like me—are skilled on multiple fronts, seamlessly shifting gears from project to project and genre to genre.

Editorial roles I’m experienced with include:

  • Acquisitions
  • Production
  • Developmental editing
  • Line editing
  • Copy editing
  • Proofreading
  • Technical editing
  • Theses and dissertation editing

Clients can contract with me for one type of editing or to steward their work through several stages of the editorial process. On some projects, this involves collaborating with in-house editors at publishing companies.

Manuscript Evaluation

Even as a published writer, after I finish a manuscript, I sometimes wonder, Does anyone want to read this? Would anyone ever publish it?

As someone who has acquired projects for a major publishing house, I know what publishers are looking for and can provide an honest assessment of your proposal or manuscript and share feedback that can help make your project more appealing to agents and publishers.

Contracts and NDAs

As a professional, protecting your ideas, your identity and privacy, your business and financial interests, and your current and future reputation is a responsibility I fiercely value and defend. Clearly outlined contracts among all parties bolster trust and establish expectations, right from the start. Contracts and other such agreements are discussed and formalized with my clients after the initial consultation and before the commencement of work.

Rates

Rates vary by project scope, type, and other unique criteria, and will be quoted following consultation.
